Carquinyolis have been made for more than two centuries, due to the abundance and quality of the almonds in Camp de Tarragona. Their unique flavour has become an indispensable product of Catalan, as well as Mediterranean confectionery.
Brought from l’Espluga de Francolí by Salvador Arimany, our carquinyolis are called Maginet thanks to the character created by Josep Maria Tarrasa when he began in Radio Tarragona. After more than 50 years in the local radio, Sirvent Tarragona wished to render tribute to his work by giving the name of its most famous character (Maginet Pelacanyes) to our carquinyolis.
Carquinyolis are made with the biscotti technique (double baked) using flour, sugar, eggs and whole almonds. Toasted bread, sweetened and with nuts, which thanks to its double baking, achieves a crispy texture and lots of flavour.
